UNIT Weight Sensor Prototype

UNIT is the world's first automatic fitness tracking company that a automatically tracks your workouts through the use of retrofitted sensors and turns your workouts into fun and competitive experiences with others. My friend and I wanted to build this conceptual product because we believed that one of the main reasons why people stop working out is due to a lack of social motivation and a lack of seeing visible progress while working out.

I ended up deciding on a minimalistic design language, keeping the sensors as simple but efficient as possible. I used Blender to model, texture, and render these models. For texturing I used Blender's geometry nodes to create a scratched metal texture which I used for both of the sensors. I used a 3 point light scheme to provide a detailed and cinematic render. When animating this product I put a lot of thought into camera positioning for the most optimal shot to demonstrate the product's capabilities. I used the Blender graph editor and timeline to create the animations and used Da Vinci Resolve to put the animation frames together.

After building/rendering out the physical product in Blender I worked in Figma to prototype wireframes of the app component. My goal was to make a user experience where the user would be able to see their gym progress as easily as possible. A user would also be able to see the amount of PRs the did, workout streak, and their fitness club association.

In addition, a user would be able to see their workout tracked live while working out. They would be able to track their sets, reps lifted per set, and weight lifted with everything being neatly displayed. By having a visual graph live tracking their workouts, I aimed to maintain transparency with the user by showing them this live graph to give legitimacy to their workouts instead of just displaying numbers.
